These chips were likely made by the U. S. Playing Card Co. from the 1920’s to the 1940’s. The chip USPC sample order volumes in the USPC Co. museum shows many of these chips and assigns a number to each. Note that often these chips were not generic, but ordered with a color combination exclusive to the customer.
The Mason & Co. catalog where these box chips are described as “exclusive” … … non-duplicate” chips to protect the club from “ringers.”)
According to the late Robert Eisenstadt’s
Antique Gambling Chips & Gambling Memorabilia Web Site, he devised a naming convention for as many C&S chips at the time and it is the primary authority on Boxed C&S chips.
These chips were custom made by the U.S. Playing Card Co., Cincinnati, OH starting in 1907 through 1947.
